Today I got a message from Microsoft Windows Security Center (WSC) that my AVIRA is OFF. Also make sure that if you're downloading the definitions manually (ie not through Windows Update or the Windows Defender user interface), that you right-click the definitions installer and select Run as administrator as it is necessary for it to be able to replace the old definitions files because of their location which is in a protected folder. Regarding Windows Defender, since you have a 64 bit operating system, you do not need to download the 32 bit definitions as they are only for the 32 bit version of Windows Defender which is only available on 32 bit versions of Windows. Excluding them from it completely should help to avoid any problems with it.
